TOURING THE CITY OF STOCKHOLM
Stockholm is the capital and major political center of Sweden. The city is built on small islands that formed where Lake Malaren meets the Baltic Sea. 60% of the area is occupied by water, public parks and environmental protection areas making Stockholm a very clean city. There are meandering waterways and 53 bridges that connect the islands of Stockholm gaining it the nickname ‘Venice of the North.’
For some great visual experiences in Stockholm tour incredible buildings from the past and present. Tour the medieval old town and see 14th century architecture. Most a few centuries ahead and gaze upon the baroque style Stockholm Castle. If you want something modern, go to the new downtown and see the Ericsson Globe Arena or the 86 meter tall Sodermalm building.
OUTSIDE OF STOCKHOLM
Drive across the country to the west coast city of Gothenburg and experience Liseberg, the largest theme park in the Nordic States. For the more conservative thrill seeker, there is wonderful architectural and cultural knowledge to be gained in Gothenburg’s old town.
Feeling even more ambitious? Drive north and witness the surreal vistas of the Scandinavian Mountain range. Rent a van or bus and take all your ski gear along for a wonderful alpine getaway.
Go to the city of Malmo near the border of Denmark and drive your rental car across the Oresund Bridge. This engineering marvel joins Sweden and Denmark by a bridge and tunnel. The 12 km country-connecting bridge/tunnel is a must see for every tourist.
